Saami Shelter 1 - 5

JOAR NANGO in cooperation with GALINA JAKOVLEVA
Trondheim – Lujávri

Saami shelter is a series of woolen sweaters knitted by women from the Saami villages Lujávri (Russia), Deanu (Norway), Deärna (Sweden), Liksjoe (Sweden) and Máze (Norway). Digital photos of local giant Lávvu buildings are used as a basis for knitting patterns in 12 different yarn colors.

The project can be seen as an «initiative» to start local production of goods with a distinctive and site-specific design. At the same time it aims to question the Saami culture’s outwards representation through the use of symbols in architecture.

At the exhibition you can order variations of the sweater.
