Installation in Murmansk

Murmansk is the largest city north of the Arctic Circle and one of the largest cities in the Barents Region. Murmansk has been totally changing its lifestyle for the last years – since the opening of the Norwegian-Russian border. It is going through great changes because of the Shtokman gas field exploitation in the Barents Sea and the Sea Port development.

We invite the Norwegian artist LARS RAMBERG to make a site-specific installation that will capture the new realities and hopes of Murmansk.

One of the possible locations for the site-specific work is the eastern end of the Kola Bay bridge or area around it.

Why Kola Bay bridge?
The bridge across Kola Bay was opened in 2005, and it is the longest bridge north of the Arctic Circle. It connects Murmansk not only with the western districts of the Murmansk region, but also with Norway and Finland. The bridge has already become one of symbols of the city. There is a plan to enlarge the bridge connections in the coming years. Together with development of the Shtokman field and of Murmansk Sea Port, it is part of the overall city development plan.
